What does flattening a PDF do?
Flattening an AcroForm converts the current appearance of its form fields into page content and removes the editable form structure. The completed values can no longer be filled in as form fields.
Why should I flatten a completed PDF form?
Flattening is useful before sharing, printing or archiving a completed form when you no longer want recipients to edit the form fields.
Will flattening change my original PDF?
No. The original file is read into the browser and a separate output PDF is created. Keep the original if you might need to edit the form again.
Can I still edit form fields after flattening?
No. The flattened output no longer contains those editable form fields. Save the original fillable PDF if you need to make changes later.
Does the tool flatten PDF comments and highlights?
The main flatten operation targets AcroForm fields. The optional annotation setting removes non-form annotation objects. It does not claim to preserve every annotation's visual appearance as fixed page content.
Are signatures supported?
PDF signature fields are part of the AcroForm system, but digitally signed PDFs have additional security and integrity rules. Do not use a flattening operation on a digitally signed document if preserving the existing digital signature is important.
Does flattening convert the PDF into images?
No. This tool uses PDF form flattening rather than rasterizing every page into an image. Regular page text and graphics remain PDF content.
Does my PDF leave my device?
The processing in this page runs inside your browser. The PDF is not uploaded to a ComfortSkillz processing server.
Can I flatten a password-protected PDF?
A PDF that requires a password to open might not be readable by the browser PDF library. Unlock the document first if the file cannot be opened.
Can I undo PDF flattening?
The flattened output cannot be turned back into the original editable form structure. Keep the original PDF before flattening.
