For multiple files, the original filename is retained automatically.
Smaller batches help reduce browser memory use for large documents.
Image-based compression rebuilds each page as an optimized image. This can reduce file size significantly for scans and image-heavy PDFs, but selectable text, links, forms and some document features are not preserved.

How PDF compression works

This tool renders PDF pages in your browser and rebuilds them using optimized JPEG images. Lower resolution and JPEG quality reduce the amount of image data stored in the resulting document.

Which compression level should I use?

High Quality is suited to reports, documents and forms where small text needs to stay sharp.

Balanced is the recommended starting point for most scanned documents and image-heavy PDFs.

Smallest Size is intended for email attachments, messaging and situations where reducing file size is more important than visual quality.

Why some PDFs do not get smaller

A PDF containing mostly text and vector objects is often already compact. Rebuilding such a file as page images can sometimes produce a larger document. The result panel reports the actual size change instead of claiming a reduction when none occurred.

PDF Compressor FAQ

Yes. The compression process runs inside your browser. The selected PDF is processed locally rather than uploaded to a PDF compression server.
Scanned documents, PDFs containing photographs and image-heavy documents usually benefit more than simple text-based PDFs.
Yes. The compression modes reduce image resolution and JPEG quality. High Quality applies lighter compression, while Smallest Size applies stronger compression.
No. This image-based compression method rebuilds each page as an image, so the resulting PDF does not retain the original selectable text layer.
Some PDFs are already highly optimized. Rebuilding a text-heavy or vector-heavy PDF as images can create a larger file. The result panel shows the actual size difference.
Smallest Size uses the lowest rendering resolution and stronger JPEG compression. It gives the strongest reduction among the available presets, with greater visual quality loss.
