Rotate
Turn an image left, right or 180 degrees. Use the angle slider for smaller corrections.
Flip
Mirror images horizontally or vertically. You can combine both flips with rotation.
Private Processing
The image is processed inside your browser using Canvas instead of being uploaded to a server.
How to Rotate or Flip an Image
- Upload a JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF image.
- Choose Rotate Left 90, Rotate Right 90 or Rotate 180.
- Use the angle slider when you need a smaller rotation.
- Use Flip Horizontal or Flip Vertical when you want to mirror the image.
- Choose PNG, JPG or WebP as the output format.
- Set the quality and background color when needed.
- Click Apply & Prepare Download.
- Download the transformed image.
What Can You Use an Image Rotator For?
An image rotator is useful when a photo, screenshot, scan or graphic has the wrong orientation. A 90-degree rotation fixes a sideways image, while a horizontal flip creates a mirror image. A vertical flip turns the image from top to bottom.
The fine-angle control is useful for slightly tilted photos. Unlike a 90-degree turn, an arbitrary-angle rotation requires the browser to resample the image and creates empty corner areas around the rotated image. PNG keeps those areas transparent, while JPG needs a solid background. 1
Rotate vs Flip
| Action | What It Does | Common Use |
|---|---|---|
| Rotate Left 90 | Turns the image 90 degrees counterclockwise | Fix sideways photos |
| Rotate Right 90 | Turns the image 90 degrees clockwise | Correct image orientation |
| Rotate 180 | Turns the image upside down | Correct upside-down images |
| Flip Horizontal | Mirrors the image from left to right | Mirror selfies, graphics and designs |
| Flip Vertical | Mirrors the image from top to bottom | Create vertical mirror effects |
| Fine Angle | Rotates by smaller increments | Straighten slightly tilted images |
Does Rotating an Image Reduce Quality?
A 90-degree or 180-degree rotation changes the orientation of the pixels. The downloaded image is still re-encoded when Canvas exports it, so the output format matters.
PNG export is lossless. JPG and WebP output use the selected quality setting. For JPG files, repeated editing and re-exporting can introduce additional compression, so keeping the original image is recommended. 2
What Happens When You Rotate an Image by a Custom Angle?
A small angle such as 5 or 10 degrees needs a larger canvas so the complete rotated image fits. The new canvas dimensions depend on the original width, height and rotation angle. Empty corners appear because the rectangular image no longer fills the entire rotated canvas.
For PNG output, those empty areas can remain transparent. JPG does not support transparency, so the selected background color fills those areas.
Does the Image Leave Your Device?
No server upload is required. The selected image is read by the browser, drawn to an HTML Canvas and exported locally. Current browser-based image rotators use this same client-side approach. 3
What Happens to Animated GIFs?
GIF files can contain multiple frames. This tool treats the loaded GIF as a still image. The transformed output is therefore a static image rather than an animated GIF.

No. Image transformation happens locally in your browser using JavaScript and Canvas.
PNG output is lossless. JPG and WebP output are encoded using the selected quality setting. Keeping the original file is recommended when image quality is important.
Yes. You can combine rotation, horizontal flipping and vertical flipping before exporting the image.
PNG output can keep transparent areas created by an angled rotation. JPG output cannot store transparency, so the selected background color fills those areas.
No. GIF input is treated as a still image and the transformed result is exported as a static PNG, JPG or WebP image.
