Does Cropping Reduce Image Quality?
Cropping removes pixels outside the selected area. The crop itself does not require the remaining pixels to be resized. The output is created using the selected source pixels at their original dimensions.
Output format still matters. PNG export uses lossless PNG encoding. JPG uses JPEG compression, so the selected quality level affects the resulting file. WebP quality also depends on the selected setting.
Is the Image Uploaded?
No server upload is required for the crop operation. The page reads the selected image in your browser, draws the image to a Canvas, extracts the selected crop and creates the downloadable file locally. Browser Canvas supports drawing selected source regions and exporting the resulting canvas as an image Blob. 1
Supported Image Formats
The tool accepts JPG, JPEG, PNG, WebP and GIF files. GIF input is treated as a still image. For an animated GIF, the browser image element supplies the displayed frame rather than preserving the animation in the cropped output.
